Aldon Smith: NFC Defensive Player of the Year visits Raytown High

Fresh from his Super Bowl XLVII appearance, San Francisco 49ers Linebacker Aldon Smith visited Raytown High March 1st,  during an assembly to talk to students about what it takes to achieve their goals.

Aldon Smith was in town to receive the award for NFC Defensive Player of the Year at the 43rd Annual 101 Awards.  According to the 101 Awards website, “Each year since 1969, the most outstanding offensive player, defensive player and coach of the year in both the AFC and NFC are chosen in a nationwide media vote.”

Smith attended Raytown High School, where he recorded 60 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 12 quarterback sacks, while adding 7 forced fumbles, 1 blocked punt and 1 safety as a senior. He also stood out on offense, as he caught 34 passes for 570 yards and 4 TDs as a tight end.

Aldon is a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club and last year donated $5,099 for every quarterback sack he made. Smith holds or shares various team records for sacking the quarterback.
