Utilizing the City’s Dangerous Building Abatement Program demolition of a house and detached located at 7814 E. 86th Street occurred this week. The property will be graded and seeded next week.
An open house on the Central Business District (CBD) Streetscape Design will be held on Monday April 16th from 5:00pm to 7:30pm at city hall. Residents and business owners who are interested in the project are invited to stop by to see the plans which have been developed. The project consultant along with city staff will be available to answer questions about the design and the process for constructing the proposed improvements. The next Streetscape Steering Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 18th from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at city hall. Comments from the open house will be reviewed and plans finalized so construction plans for Phase 1 improvements can be submitted to MODOT for approval. It is anticipated that bids will be sought this summer with construction starting by fall.
As part of the City Neighborhood Stabilization Program 3 (NSP3) grant a building permit was issued for 5428 Sterling for a single family residence. The old structure was demolished a few weeks ago also utilizing these grant funds.
Ray Haydaripoor and Becky Petree attended the Missouri Association Code Enforcement Annual Meeting and Training Day on Friday, March 23rd in Columbia. Part of the meeting/training included the default and foreclosure processes. The training allowed them to gain a greater understanding how to increase the communication and collaboration between municipalities, such as Raytown, and the entities responsible for the foreclosed properties to help ensure that the properties and the neighborhoods in which they are located remain healthy and safe.
Please mark your calendars! In conjunction with EMS Week, a Community Blood Center blood drive will be held at Raytown Emergency Medical Services on May 23, from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Make your appointment online at www.esavealifenow.org and use Sponsor Code raytownems or contact Kim at 737-6030. Walk-ins will also be welcomed. Thank you for taking the time to give life-saving blood donations. A promotion is being held during this blood drive in which any person who attends the blood drive and tries to donate blood will receive a coupon for one “buy one get one free” ticket to Schlitterbahn Water Park.
The Community Cleanup Event will be held on May 5th at the Super Splash Parking lot from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Cars and small trucks are free again this year; there is a fee for large trucks and all trailers. Willey Disposal will dispose of all the containers again this year and this will once again allow the collection of electronics with no additional fee. Willey Disposal sorts through all of the containers at their transfer station and recycles as much of the material collected as they can, which includes electronics. For residents and businesses that will not be able to participate this year; a list of vendors will be posted on the City’s website that can assist them in disposing of items. An example will be a listing of all licensed trash haulers and those that will collect large items, locations of disposal sites and a list of scrap metal haulers who will collect household appliances.
Staff will participate in interviews with the Mid-America Regional Council and other municipalities to select a consultant to assist in planning efforts along future rail corridors. There are several corridors throughout the metropolitan area that will have a plan developed that will guide future developments. Staff will only participate in the selection of a consultant for the Rock Island Corridor that runs the length of the city.
