A Kansas City man has been charged in Wednesday’s armed robbery and home invasion in Raytown, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Byron L. Edwards, 23, faces charges of Robbery 1st Degree, Burglary 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
According to court records, two men – one armed with an AK?47 and another with a handgun – kicked open the front door of a residence in the 8500 block of Everett about 9:30 a.m. and demanded money of the homeowners. After taking cash, they fled the home and a homeowner fired shots at the fleeing vehicle. Police tracked and located the vehicle, marked by bullet holes, at a Kansas City workplace. The operator of the vehicle told police that he had been given $20 to drive two men to commit the robbery.
The robbery remains under investigation.
Prosecutors have requested a $150,000 cash bond for Edwards.
