Clay artist Myrna Minnis visited Raytown Middle School

Local clay artist Myrna Minnis visited Raytown Middle School art classes recently. Minnis is known as “The Oogly Lady” based on her clay sculptures called “ooglies”.

Minnis did an inspirational demonstration and encouraged each student to create his or her own oogly. When students were finished, they were asked to write original poems about their oogly. Student creations will be fired and placed on display in the school library.

Minnis’ visit was made possible by a grant from the Raytown Educational Foundation, which finds approximately $10,000 in innovative teacher grants in the district each year.
