Blair Lane’s killer sentenced

Jackson County Judge John Torrence sentenced Aaron Sullivan to three years in prison today for his role in the shooting death of Blair Lane, 11, on the Fourth of July.

Sullivan, 50, will turn himself over to the Department of Corrections in two weeks.

“This is an extremely tragic case,” said Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. “There are no winners. But, at a minimum, this should send a clear message to the community that recklessly shooting guns inside the city can carry tragic consequences, especially for innocent victims like Blair Lane.”

Sullivan pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in December. Sullivan and other men were celebrating July 4 by firing a gun at the Whispering Lakes Apartment complex; the stray bullet hit Blair Shanahan Lane in the neck, killing her. She had been celebrating at a party at a family member’s home at 43rd and Pittman.
