City Administrator’s Report for 9/9/2011

City Administrator’s Report
FROM: Mahesh Sharma, City Administrator

Draft copies of the proposed budget for FY 2011-2012 are complete and ready for pick-up at the Administration Department.

Public hearings for the FY 2011 – 2012 proposed budget are scheduled for Wednesday, September 28th, and Thursday, September 29th, in the Council Chambers beginning both evenings at 7:00pm.

Human Resources

Welcome to both Karissa Gaskill, Accounts Payable Clerk, with the Finance Department and Timothy Amos, Maintenance Worker, with the Public Works Department; both who started this past Tuesday.

Information Technology

Data network and VoIP phone system has been successfully deployed to the newly renovated Maintenance Barn. IP Telephony will not just replace previous phone system, but will allow much greater functionality, increased productivity, enhanced customer service and lower costs than prior technologies.

IP Telephony will allow the City to use one service provider to provide the voice trunks at each location. Through the service provider, we will have Quality of Service to give voice priority over data. This will allow for lower cost than the traditional means of a totally private network connecting each of the City facilities.

Parks and Recreation

Minor Smith Park Bridge Dedication is set for tomorrow, September 10th, beginning at 11:30am. This event will celebrate the re-opening of the Minor Smith Park to the public after the construction of the new bridge giving access to the park. Speakers at this event will be Mayor David Bower, Park Board President Bob Smith and Park and Recreation Director Kevin Boji. Descendants of Minor Smith will be in attendance to assist with the ribbon cutting.

Public Works

Renovation’s contractor has completed all interior work and staff has started moving into the new facility. Telecommunications and data infrastructure should be complete by Monday with full operations at the renovated facility. Crews will be working on completing the installation of shelves and moving all equipment and supplies into the completed building over the next several weeks.

William White and Sons Construction Company, the new concrete contractor, is scheduled to start next week, weather depending, and anticipates completion in about three week’s time.

Missouri Department of Transportation announced the Blue Ridge Boulevard Bridge over Route 350 will reopen next week. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the completion of the bridge at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 12th, at the bridge on Blue Ridge Boulevard just south of 67th Street.
