City Administrator’s Report for 3/14/2014

City Administrator’s Report
FROM: Mahesh Sharma, City Administrator

 Public Works

The White Oak West Sanitary Sewer Line A construction continues this week with construction progressing along 83rd Street to Laurel. The contractor is still working along the creek near 83rd Street installing large diameter pipe and boring under 83rd Street.

Google is in full construction mode of the fiber network in Raytown with about 20 contractors working on the installation. As of March 14th there were 908 different permits issued to Google contractors for work within the right-of-way. We believe we are nearing the final number of right- of-way permits that will be issued for the Google fiber project. Google is installing the fiber network on existing KCP&L poles and underground. To ensure the poles are capable of handling the increased loads many of the poles will have to be replaced or upgraded. Various electrical contractors continue the process of installing replacement power poles and anchors throughout the City. Restoration work of the impacted yards and right-of-ways will likely continue through the middle of summer.

The cold winter has been hard on the streets and Public Works crews are working on filling potholes. To minimize the impact of potholes the crews are now focused on filling them. Once they are caught up, crews will then perform additional permanent patches to the roadways. Following this process prevents potholes from going long periods of time without any attention.
