City Administrator’s Report

Community Development

A public open house on the Central Business District (CBD) Streetscape Design will be held on Monday, April 16th, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Raytown City Hall. Residents, business owners, and anyone else who is interested in the project are invited to stop by anytime to see the plans that the Steering Committee has developed. The project consultant along city staff will also be available to answer questions about the design and the process for constructing the proposed streetscape improvements. The next Streetscape Steering Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 18th from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Raytown City Hall. Comments from the public open house will be reviewed and plans finalized so that construction plans for Phase 1 streetscape improvements can then be submitted to the Missouri Department of Transportation for their review and approval. It is anticipated that bids for construction of the Phase 1 improvements will be sought this summer with construction starting by this fall.

Author Christopher B. Leinberger discusses a new approach to urban living in “The Option of Urbanism: Investing in a New American Dream” on Wednesday, April 18th, at 6:30pm at the Central Library (14 W 10th Street) The presentation is part of the library’s What Makes a Great City Series. Admission is free and a reception precedes the event at 6:00pm. RSVP by calling 816.701.3407. Free parking is available at the Library District Parking Garage (10th St & Baltimore). The event is co-presented by MARC and KCPT-TV.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the two NSP3 homes that have been constructed at 5420 & 5424 Laurel Avenue (the intersection of Laurel Avenue and 55th Street) will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Congressman Cleaver and officials from the Missouri Department of Economic Development are anticipated to in attendance.

Information Technology

Staff Manager attended technical conference this week with emphasis on cloud technologies and mobile device management. As the progression toward cloud based technology and mobile device applications expands, staff is defining and developing IT infrastructure for the evolution of cloud technologies (private, public, and hybrid) to optimize the business process.

Public Works

The Community Clean-up Event will be held on May 5th at the Super Splash Parking lot from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Cars and small trucks are free again this year; however there is a fee for large trucks and all trailers. Electronics will be accepted again this year by Willey Disposal. Wiley Disposal minimizes costs by recycling a significant portion of the trash by segregating recyclable items at the transfer station. Volunteers are still needed to assist with community collections and assistance at the collection site. To volunteer please call city hall at 737-6014 or the Raytown Chamber at 353-8500
