Crime Victims’ Rights Week

To commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Jackson County will take part in a special event from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the KC Live Block in the Power and Light District at 14th and Grand Avenue in Downtown Kansas City.

Speakers and special guests will include David M. Ketchmark, acting U.S. Attorney, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker and Greg Smith, founder of the Kelsey Smith Foundation. The Kansas City Mounted Patrol will be on site and will oversee the memorial walk that will take place at the end of the event. The Crystal Kipper and Ali Kemp Memorial Award will be presented by Ketchmark, and Greg Smith, father of Kelsey Smith, abducted and murdered in June 2007, will be the featured speaker.

This National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Community Awareness Project is supported by a Victims of Crime Act grant from the Office for Victims of Crime, U.S. Department of Justice. VictimNet is a coalition of Kansas City area agencies committed to meeting the needs of crime victims. See more information at www.victimnet.org.
