David Easley selected 2013 National Merit Semifinalist

Raytown South High School Senior David Easley has been selected as a 2013 National Merit Semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists have the opportunity to continue in competition for 9,600 scholarships worth more than $44 million dollars which will be offered in the spring of 2013.

Easley qualified for the award by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of United States high school seniors.

Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Approximately 90% of Semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship. Included in the requirements are maintaining an outstanding academic record and earning SAT scores confirming the PSAT score.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation was established in 1955, operates without government assistance, and underwrites its own scholarships with funding from approximately 440 businesses and higher education institutions that share the goal of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and academic excellence.
