Last Sunday evening at 7:15 PM Raytown Police Officer Brand attempted to stop a silver 2004 Ford Escape for exceeding the speed limit at the intersection of Blue Ridge Blvd. and James A. Reed Road. When the officer exited his vehicle in order to issue a traffic ticket, the vehicle sped away, running a red light and almost colliding with cross traffic. The Raytown Officer gave chase Northbound on James A. Reed, but stopped the hot pursuit due to the risk to public safety. The fleeing vehicle was discovered at 75th and James A. Reed, where it had crashed without hitting any other vehicles. The driver was identifies as Anthony C. Harris. Harris’ girlfriend and their one year old son were ejected from the car as a result of the crash. The girlfriend died on the way to the hospital and the son was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Harris is facing four criminal counts…
1. Murder in the Second Degree (due to a death in the commission of a felony) or Involuntary Homicide.
2. Resisting Stop by fleeing
3. Endangering welfare of child 1st degree
4. Driving While Revoked – 1st Offense
