Maurice Mitchell at the Olympics in London

Raytown South High School 2008 graduate Maurice Mitchell has qualified for the United States Olympic team in the 200 meter men’s sprint. Mitchell finished 2nd in the Olympic trials and will head to London in August of this year. Mitchell’s race will begin on August 7 with preliminaries, and will conclude with finals on August 9.

While at Raytown South, Mitchell was an eight time Missouri State Champion in the 100, 200, and 400 meters as both a junior and senior, as well as a member of two state champion relay teams. He set state records in the 100 meters and 200 meters.

Mitchell was also the Missouri Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2006, 2007, and 2008.

The number one recruit in the Kansas City area, Mitchell’s collegiate career took him to Florida State University. Mitchell is the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Division I 200 meter outdoor champion and the 2012 NCAA Division I 200 meter indoor champion. He is the current record holder in the 200 at Florida State University.
