Missouri National Guard welcomes more Soldiers

EVENT: 1141st Engineer Company Welcome Home Ceremony

DATE/TIME: Saturday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m.

LOCATION: Army National Guard Armory, 7600 Ozark Rd.,

Kansas City, Mo. 64129

The Missouri National Guard will welcome home an additional 20-plus Soldiers in Joplin’s 203rd Engineer Battalion and Kansas City’s 1141st Engineer Company (Sapper) at two ceremonies on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The Soldiers, arriving at the later date due to a training commitment – Warrior Leadership Course, will be honored in brief ceremonies five days following welcome home ceremonies held for the main group.

The Soldiers deployed to support Overseas Contingency Operations in just over a year ago. While overseas, its missions included clearing roads of improvised explosive devices, construction of bridges for advancing coalition forces and counter-mobility operations by way of building and improving base fortifications.

Of the unit’s five companies, three deployed, including its headquarters company of Joplin, its forward support company of Joplin and Neosho, and its sapper company of Kansas City.

The 203rd commanded, controlled and supported three sapper companies in Afghanistan — its own 1141st Engineer Company of Kansas City, the 211th Engineer Company of South Dakota and the 810th Engineer Company of Georgia. The unit reported to the 372nd Engineer Brigade of the Army Reserves from Minnesota, under the 82nd Airborne Division.

The battalion is commanded by Lt. Col. Anthony Adrian of Columbia. The 1141st sappers are commanded by Capt. Brian Sayer of Richland.

Family, friends, community and media are encouraged to welcome the Citizen-Soldiers. For media coordination in Joplin, please RSVP with Ann Keyes at 417-766-2778 or ann.keyes@us.army.mil.
