Police Surround Home of Assault Suspect, Later Find Nobody Home

Raytown Police were called to the 5300 block of Appleton today (02-14-13) at about 1:00 p.m., on a report of a disturbance.  When officers arrived they found a woman outside, who had suffered minor facial injuries.  She said that her husband, a 35 year old man, had assaulted her and ran back inside their house.  Prior to entering the house, he made a comment that could be interpreted as suicidal in nature.  The officers attempted to contact the man, but did not receive a response.  Police were unable to confirm that the man still remained in the residence.  The presence of any weapons, in the residence, was unknown.  The Raytown Police Tactical team was called to the scene.  Negotiators attempted phone contact with the man, but were unsuccessful.

At about 4:00 p.m., officers entered the home and found that no one was present.  Police personnel cleared the scene and the investigation was ongoing.
