Raytown High Schools debate tournament results

The Raytown High School and Raytown South High School Speech and Debate teams competed at the Missouri State High School Activities Association District #9 Qualifying Tournament held at William Chrisman on March 16 and 17.

Top finishers for the Raytown were Josh Ethridge, 6th place in Extemporaneous Speaking; Lauren Belzer and Emma Givens, 8th in Duet Acting; and Jackson Bonifield and Claire Robinson, State Qualifiers in Policy Debate.

Individual winners for Raytown South were: Garrett Poorman, District Champion and State Qualifier in both Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Extemporaneous Speaking and additionally a qualifier in Original Oratory, taking 4th place; Joseph Bennett and Joseph Summers, District Champions and State Qualifiers in Public Forum Debate; David Easley and Amanda Mesa, 2nd place and State Qualifiers in Policy Debate; and Courtney Leathers and Daniel Worthington, 3rd place and State Qualifiers in Duet Acting.

Other district finalists from Raytown South were: Joseph Bennett, 7th place in Radio Speaking; Ethan Wilkins, 7th place in ;Dramatic Interpretation; Bryson Kenworthy, 7th place in Storytelling; and DaeShawn Webb, 8th place Prose Reading.

The State Tournament will be held at the University of Missouri, Columbia on April 20 and 21, 2012.
