Raytown man charged with two robberies

An 18-year-old Raytown man has been charged in two recent robberies, including one Tuesday that occurred while the victim was waiting for a bus in Raytown, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

According to court records, a man was waiting for the bus Tuesday (11/6/2012) near 87th and James A Reed Road, when a man the victim later identified as Horton grabbed his iPhone and displayed a gun, telling the victim: “Either you walk away now or you die. It’s either your life or the phone.” Police later found Horton a few blocks away with the stolen phone in his pocket and a loaded 380 caliber automatic pistol. Police also questioned Horton about a recent home invasion and he told them he stole property from the residence.

The home invasion was in the 8400 block of Marsh Ave. on Sept. 25th of 2012. The victim of that home invasion stated that Mr. Horton and 3 other men kicked, punched and eventually pistol whipped him. The robbers then took a laptop, TV, PlayStation and cell phone. The cell phone was recovered from Horton at the time of his arrest for the November robbery.

Horton faces two counts of first-degree robbery and prosecutors are asking for a bond of $100,000.
