The Raytown Police Department will be hosting CERT training, beginning May 5, 2014. The free training will be hosted in anticipation of forming a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Raytown. The CERT Program teaches volunteer citizens disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact the area in which they live. The training includes basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. With the training learned in the classroom, and during exercises, CERT members may be better prepared to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace when professional responders are not immediately available to help after an event. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. For more information about CERT, please visit http://www.ready.gov/citizen-corps.
