Raytown Schools Jazz Band Competition

It is Jazz Band competition season, and Raytown Schools bands have been busy in competition.

The Raytown High School Jazz I and Jazz II ensembles participated in the University of Central Missouri Jazz Festival on February 24 and 25. Both bands received “Superior – 1” ratings from the judges. Outstanding Soloist awards were given to Logan Anderson on trumpet, and Jonny White on tenor saxophone. The bands are under the direction of Joseph Hill.

The Raytown South High School Jazz Band participated in the Drury Jazz Festival in Springfield, Missouri on March 2 and 3. South took first place overall of 8 bands. Outstanding soloists awards were given to Alysa Orchard, Robert Alexander, Mamie McIntyre, Kole Waters, Brian Lollman, and Michael Keightley.

The band is under the direction of Michelle Dake.

The Raytown South Middle School jazz band played at the University of Missouri Kansas City Jazz Festival on February 3. No ratings for bands were given, but Outstanding Soloists were Callan Searcy on guitar, Micheal Hudspeth on trombone, Savaria Goodman on alto sax, Hannah McIntyre on trumpet.

SMS also traveled to the Missouri Western Jazz Festival on February 11. Again there were no ratings for bands. Outstanding Soloists were Callan Searcy on guitar, Isaac Barkley on piano, and TaMiya Strickland on baritone saxophone.

Additionally, the SMS band has been touring elementary schools on the south side of the district to promote interest in band.

The band is under the direction of Brenda Kueck.
