Raytown South Cardinal Debate and Forensics team news

The Raytown South Cardinal Debate and Forensics team opened its season with a first place win in overall sweepstakes over 22 other teams at the Blue Springs and Blue Springs Tournament on October 13 and 14.

Bryson Kenworthy finished 2nd in Humorous Interpretation. All three duos made it to finals with Courtney Leathers and Daniel Worthington taking 6th, Suzi Hamilton and Bryson Kenworthy taking 4th, and Michael Daniels and Joseph Summers taking 2nd.

Garrett Poorman took 2nd in US Extemp and 1st in Oratory, Joseph Summers took 1st in US Extemp, Daniel Worthington took 2nd in International Extemp, and David Easley took 3rd in International Extemp.

The public forum teams of Joseph Bennett and Joseph Summers, Michael Daniels and Daniel Worthington, and Courtney Robinson and Nick Scarcello accomplished the rare feat of a 3?way closeout of public forum finals, all taking 1st place. Amanda Mesa and David Easley took 4th place in Policy Debate. In Novice competition, Kesha Gordon took 2nd in oratory, Matt Vanross took 2nd in Prose, and Justin Howard took 1st in Prose.

At the Park Hill Varsity and Winnetonka Novice tournaments on October 21?22, the following students took home awards: Bryson Kenworthy, 2nd in Varsity Humorous Interpretation, Bryson Kenworthy and Suzi Hamilton, 3rd in Varsity Duo Interpretation, Ethan Wilkins, 4th in Varsity United States Extemporaneous Speaking and 5th in Varsity Dramatic Interpretation, David Dempsey, 6th in Novice Prose and Amoira Needles, 7th in Novice Poetry.

At the Lee’s Summit North Varsity Tournament on October 28 and 29, Garrett Poorman took 2nd in Original Oratory, 3rd in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and 4th in Lincoln?Douglas Debate. Joseph Bennett took 2nd in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and 3rd in Humorous Interpretation. Ethan Wilkins took 2nd in Dramatic Interpretation.

The Cardinals are coached by Matt Good and the Assistant Coach is Maureen Woods.
