Raytown South High will receive grant to boost their athletics programs

raytown_schoolsRaytown South High is one of three Missouri high schools that will receive grants to boost their athletics programs, from the California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant initiative. They are among 85 high schools in 38 states receiving a total of $101,500 for athletics programs.

Raytown South’s varsity football coach David Allie wants to ensure that his “players – as well as the school’s 400 other student athletes – have access to durable, safe equipment in the weight room”
Training for strength and speed, Allie said in his application, is the foundation for success in competition. The grant, valued at $1000, will be utilized to improve the weight room.

Shrinking state education budgets, pressure on schools to focus efforts on academics, and diminishing funds for athletics inspired California Casualty Chairman and CEO Beau Brown to establish the grant program in honor of his father – Chairman Emeritus Tom Brown, a lifelong athlete and sportsman. The senior Brown experienced firsthand the complementary relationship between athletics and academics.
