Robbery Suspect Nabbed Leaving the Scene of the Crime

Raytown Police responded to a restaurant in the 9700 block of E. 63^rd St. last Sunday (02/20/2011) evening a little after 8:30 p.m. Witnesses and victims had given police the description of a man that had held up the business at gunpoint. Officers arriving on the scene spotted a man matching the suspect description walking away from the business carrying the bag described by the witnesses. When confronted by the Officers, the man ignored them and attempted to elude them among some of the neighboring buildings, but was surrounded. Still refusing to respond to Officers orders to stop and show his hands, the man began throwing money into the air. Shortly thereafter the man was taken into custody. On Tuesday (02/22/2011) Jackson County Prosecutors charged 64 year old James L. Valiant-Bey of Kansas City with Robbery in the First Degree related to the incident.
