Sales tax for Raytown Parks amended to include a sunset provision

The Board of Aldermen amended the Park Sales Tax bill to include a sunset provision.  The vote was close, 6 to 4.  The Mayor made it clear that he would vote in favor of the amendment if he had to break a tie vote.  The pro-amendment side argued that this would leave control in the hands of the voters. Those against the amendment argued that oversight should be by the Board every year and that renewal already has cost about $100,000 in Election Board fees.

The amendment passing had the effect of delaying final passage to the next BOA meeting. At that time the BOA will vote on putting the revised version of the bill on the August Primary ballot.
