Officers were called to a house in that block shortly before 3:00 this afternoon when a man called to report that his roommate had a rifle and was threatening him with it. The gunman spoke with a police dispatcher for a short while after allowing the roommate to leave. He told the dispatcher that he would shoot anyone that came to his door. As officers were arriving in the neighborhood, the man apparently left his house with the gun. Officers on foot encountered the armed man outside of the house and the shooting took place. The man was felled by one shot and disarmed. An ambulance took him to an area hospital where succumbed to his wound.
Raytown Police report that the officer was placed on leave immediately after the incident as Department policy requires. An investigation into the shooting has begun and detectives are still working at the scene.
