 The National Weather Service has revised the Winter Weather Advisory for Jackson County to from 9:00 pm Saturday to Sunday at 6::00 pm. Snow expectations is now a total accumulation thru Sunday of 2? to 4?.
T  he National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Jackson County until 6:00 pm Saturday. Snow expectations of a total accumulation thru Sunday of 3″ to 5″.
Thursday, February 26th from 4:00-6:00 PM Westridge Gardens is partnering with the Raytown Artist’s Associations to host an Artist of the Month reception featuring Artist, Sylvia Mooney. At Westridge Ms. Mooney has selected a collection a diverse collection of pieces including a sunrise, flowers, an old mill, and an abstract piece. The art show is open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
The Raytown High School Theatre department will perform Arthur Miller’s The Crucible on February 26, 27, and 28 at the high school. Set in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, the play is a dramatic re-enactment of the Salem Witch Trials. The play is based on real events, but is not actual history. When the play first appeared on stage in 1953, it was intended to be an allegory about the anti-communist Red Scare and Senator Joseph McCarthy’s congressional hearings. “I was first drawn to this play when I read it in high school and have been brought back to it several times,” Director Katie Kolster said. “It is a well-written drama that presents a moral dilemma.” Thursday, February 26th and Friday, February 27th’s performances begin at 7:00 at the Robert B. Atkins Performing Arts Center, 6109 Blue Ridge Blvd. Saturday, Feburary 28th’s performances are at both 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. According to Kolster, the play will have a different feel for the audience. “It used to be a tradition at Raytown High that every year, one of the plays would be performed ‘in the round,’ meaning that the audience is seated around the stage. This show will revive that tradition. Forcing the action so close to the audience creates an intimate atmosphere and also heightens the emotional content,” Kolster said. Due to the limited number of seats available, advance ticket purchase is suggested. Braden Best and Hanna Treat will portray John and Elizabeth Proctor, Dykota Sprinkle and Amethyst Moraine will portray Giles and Martha Corey. Francis Nurse and Rebecca Nurse will be played by Lia Bowne and Hannah Steele, and Tituba and Sarah Good will be played by Raynesha Green and Gi Gi Willett. Brooke Griggs, Hope Romero, Leigh Ann Beam, Mosha Clyma, Tina Mathis, Grace Givens, and Iliana Miller will portray The Girls. The People of Salem will be played by Stephen Reynolds, Gabe Sawyer, Jessica Madrid, Jeremiah Paul, and Ashley Dedrickson. Members of The Court will be portrayed by Zach Kujath, Austin Hardiman, Emeril Hart, Richard Jones, Chris Solomon, and Nathan Holloway. Zach Thonen is serving as Technical Director and Scenic Designer. Assistant Directors are Emma Drace and Abbie Braly. Stage managers are Leah White, Julianna McCarroll, and Tyler Stanway. The Fly Rail Operator is Leah White and the Lighting Designer and Board Operator is Hannah Wadleigh. Costume and Hair and Makeup Design are provided by Demetrius Hampton and Melanie Newton respectively. Elizabeth Kujath is the Sound Designer and Board Operator, and Raheem Fielder-Bey and Amethyst Moraine are the Props Designers. Vinzent Guthrie and the high school Graphic Design class created the poster for the play, and the box office will be managed by Luther Wright and Kayla Lee. 
Register Raytown is a non-partisan effort to register voters in Raytown. We will be helping voters get registered on March 1st from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Painters Hall at 9902 East 62nd Street Raytown, MO. A Jackson County Election Board employee has volunteered his time so that your registration will be submitted immediately. Directions: Take 63rd to Raytown Road (between Fox Drug and the UMB Bank) and turn North to 62nd Street and turn West (left) and it will be right in front of you. Local elections have more impact on our lives than any other type election. They determine the quality of our streets and street lights, police, parks, schools, and fire protection. Politicians listen to people that vote and are more likely to treat them fairly. There was some concern when our daily website hits seemed to be suffering a slight decline recently, until it was discovered that the total number of readers that directly subscribe via their email account has more than doubled to 450 individuals who have opted to have new articles directly emailed when they are posted. The Raytown South Speech and Debate teams are Suburban Conference Blue Division Champions. First place finishers in individual speech events were: Constanza Castro, Lauren Douglas, Brandon Guzman, Amanda Johnson, Alyssa Jones, Holly Sullivan, Jacob Summers, Paige Teeman, Hannah Unruh, and Matt Vanross. David Dempsey and Bri Wesley won 3rd place medals. Gordon Casey, Brycen Hill, Ashtyn Lea, and Josh Williams all finished in the top 8 in speaking events. First Team All-Conference selections in speech were: Lauren Douglas, Juan Rustin, Helene Slinker, Paige Teeman, and Hannah Unruh. In debate events, the team of Sarah Owens and Helene Slinker, and the team of David Dempsey and Constanza Castro finished in first place, both going undefeated Daniel Dodd, Brandon Jones, Megyn Payne, and Parker Simpson all placed in the top eight in debate events. First team all-conference debaters are: Gordon Casey Alexis Hampton, Juan Rustin, Jacob Summers Sydni Turner, and Cody True. The teams are coached by Maureen Woods and Kristy Hensley. Fire broke out at a home on Lakeshore Drive at about 4:30 pm, just South of 67th Street. The cause is not known at this time.

I am Mary Jane Van Buskirk, I am running for Alderman in Ward 4. I’m a 42 year resident of Raytown. We have a great city and we need to market it as such. We do have problems but working together we can fix these problems and make Raytown better than its ever been. I am not saying I can fix all the problems but I promise I will give it 100%. In order to fix our problems we must find ways to expand our economic base by attracting new business, because all of this comes with a cost. I do have concerns and here is a list of them; 1. I feel very strongly that we need more police patrol in our neighborhoods, crime in the neighborhoods is on the increase. We have 56 full time police officers and a budget of $7,839,664.00 (47% of our city’s budget). We had 7,221 outstanding warrants in the month of December. I believe we should look at the possibility of restructuring our police department so as to better utilize the personnel and the tax dollars that fund it. As a strong supporter of our police department it is not my intent to bash the police department but to make it more efficient. 2. Code enforcement needs to be done on a daily basis not just when citizens or elected officials complain, it should be proactive. The codes department employees are on the streets daily and if they are doing their job properly they see violations and that is when they need to be handled. Enforced codes benefit all homes owners and businesses in our city. 3. Streets in many areas of our city are not well lit and this just invites crime. The tax payers deserve to have their neighborhoods lit and to feel safe and secure in their homes. 4. Street maintenance is also an area I feel needs to be reviewed. Good streets, like codes are essential to make Raytown more attractive to potential home buyers and prospective businesses. I would appreciate your support on April 7th to give me an opportunity to serve you for the next four years. My promise is that I will take the job seriously and work hard for those I represent. Call me at 737-2799 with questions.  On February 21st at 11:37 AM Raytown Police officers were called to a store in 10000 Block of 350 Highway for a black male that had assaulted an employee. Officers contacted the subject in the parking lot of the business where he was arrested. While making the arrest one Raytown Police Officer was bitten and another injured his back. The suspect and the officers were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The suspect is in custody and charges are pending.
Winter Weather Advisory for Jackson County for 4:00 pm Feb. 20th to 10:00 am Feb. 21st. Snow, sleet, freezing rain, and dangerous driving conditions. Due to the threat of impending inclement weather, the Legislative Forum scheduled for the Raytown School district today, 2.20.15, has been cancelled. The next forum is April 7.?

Thursday, February 19th, 2015 at 7:00 PM Our speakers will be Lauren Gepford Mike McDonough Thank you for helping to keep MO Blue All Raytown City and School Board candidates have been invited to the next two meetings to give an opportunity to meet them prior to the April 7th Election  Raytown High’s Talking Bluejays debate team recently competed in the White Division of the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference Speech and Debate Tournament held at Oak Park High School in North Kansas City.
The team finished in sixth place, and Yermeya Bagunu received First Team All-Conference in Storytelling. Second Team winners All-Conference were Romeo Bagunu in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Sarah Marshall in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Israel Hanke in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Tamela Hill in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Madie Hill in Original Oration, Alexis Hartenstein in Poetry Reading, Anisah Marshall in Storytelling, Romeo Bagunu with Doyne Dodd in Duo Interpretation, Aarnisha Howard with Anthony Roebuck in Public Forum Debate, and Lauren Lomax with Evalynn Lomax in Public Forum Debate. The Talking Bluejays are coached by Mark Harris. On Monday, February 16th about 8:49 PM, Raytown Officers were called to a pharmacy in the 5300 Block of Blue Ridge Boulevard for an armed man who had demanded pills. When the officers arrived they were told that a white male wearing a dark-colored coat, a hat, sun glasses and scarf around his face displayed a gun to the pharmacist and demanded pills. The man was about 6’3’’, between 30-45 years old, thin build and around 200 lbs. Once the man was given the pills he left north on Woodson Road in a newer model Gold Dodge Ram. No one was harmed during the robbery.

The Raytown School District is pleased to announce the hiring of administrators of for the 2015-2016 school year. Toni Davis will be an Assistant Principal at Raytown South Middle School. In December, Davis became an Acting Assistant Principal before the permanent position posted. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from the University of Arkansas. Davis earned her Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning from Avila University and her Master of Science in School Leadership at Baker University. Before Raytown South Middle, Davis served for 10 years as an English Teacher and later, an Administrative Intern at Raytown Middle School. Josh Hustad will also be an Assistant Principal at Raytown South Middle School. Hustad currently serves as the District Behavior Coordinator and is the Process Coordinator at Raytown South Middle. He received his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Missouri Western State University and his Master of Science in Education School Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Hustad has spent his entire career in Raytown also serving as a 4th grade Teacher, Special Education Teacher, and Administrative Intern at Westridge Elementary. Joshua Luke will be an Assistant Principal at Raytown High School. Luke is currently the Secondary Science Coordinator at the school. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education Earth Sciences and His Master of Science in Education School Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Starting as a Science Teacher in 2009, Luke has spent his entire career in Raytown. Luke has been a Teacher Leader, Administrative Intern, Building Leadership Team Member, and Science Department Chair at Raytown High. James Morrill will be the Director of Buildings and Grounds. He currently serves as an Assistant Principal at Raytown South Middle School. Morrill received his Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Theater Education from Oklahoma State University, his Master of Arts in Education Secondary Administration from the University of Missouri, and his Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University. He has served many roles in the district starting as a classroom Teacher at Raytown South High and serving as an Assistant Principal at Raytown High and Raytown Middle School. Ms. Maddie Lugenbeel, daughter of Frank and Michelle Lugenbeel of Kansas City, Missouri, has been placed on the President’s List for her scholastic performance at Cottey College during the fall 2014 semester. In order to be on the President’s List, the student’s grade point average must be between a 3.75 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum of 12 credit hours completed.
Cottey College is an independent, liberal arts and sciences college for women located in The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for Jackson County for snow on Feb. 15th from 3:00 pm until 9:00 am Feb. 16th. 2 to 4 inches possible with a 60% chance after 6:00 pm.
