Bluejay Pride Marching Band to Host Festival
By Michael Downing, on September 28th, 2011
On Saturday, October 8, the Bluejay Pride Marching Band will host the Raytown Marching Festival at Raytown High School, 6019 Blue Ridge Blvd. At least 13 marching bands will compete, including: Raytown South, Lee’s Summit West, Grandview, Shawnee Mission Northwest and other local schools, as well as bands from Sedalia and Ozark. The Festival kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with drumline and color guard competition in the gymnasium. The field competition follows at Chittwood Stadium at 1:40 p.m. with performances every 20 minutes. Tickets are available at either venue for $5.00 for the entire competition. Children 5 and under free. Concessions, including Sheridan’s Frozen Custard, will be available throughout the Festival.
The Bluejay Pride Marching Band is one of 12 bands selected nationally to participate in the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans on January 9, 2012. Various fundraising efforts are underway to offset expenses for the trip. The band’s current field show, Pyramids of Egypt, recently won 7th place out of 30 shows at the prestigious Webbstock Marching Festival. We invite all Raytown residents to be loud and proud in their support of these fine, young musicians.
