There has been a break in a Raytown Water Company water main. It is probably a major break as 1st reports have it effecting from 59th St. to 74th St. More on this as it comes in.
At about 12:45 am on July 4th, I noticed that we have water pressure again.
A major water main has broken at the intersection of Raytown Road and 59th Street at about 9:00 pm. It is known that water is out from the public library to 65th and Elm. There are reports of low water pressure as far as Woodson and 63rd St. As much as half of Raytown may be effected with no water or low water pressure.
Raytown Water Company is locating valves on all sides of the break to close that section off and route the water around the break. If this is successful, water service may resume in a matter of hours. According to the President and General Manager of Raytown Water Co, Neal Clevenger, the broken main is one of the original pipe that was run from Leeds to Raytown in 1925 when his grandfather founded the company and Raytown was a small community of about 300 people. Mr. Clevenger was at the scene of the water break, organizing the efforts to fix the problem. Photos and videos will be posted soon.
A unconfirmed report has come in that a major portion of Raytown is without water tonight. RayytownOnline is investigating and will have more on this as we confirm the details. At present we know it is a break in the Raytown Water Company lines, and not Water District #2. Unconfirmed is that it has effected many blocks. \
