Yesterday afternoon, September 26th, 2013, the Raytown Police Department received information of two separate instances in which a white male subject approached residents, posing as an employee of a water company. The incidents occurred only minutes apart, and it was possible that the male subject in both were the same man. The man said that the water needed to be turned off, under a sink, in both instances.
One resident allowed the man inside the house and he appeared to be turning off water valves throughout the residence. After the man left, with the promise to return to turn the water back on, it was discovered that the water had not been turned off at all, and property had been stolen.
The subject was described as being 40-50 years old, from 5’9” to 6’2” tall, thin build, brown hair. He was wearing a ball cap, jeans, and possibly a denim shirt. The man was seen entering a dark green Ford Taurus.
The Raytown Police Department advises residents to ask for proper identification before letting someone inside their homes to do any kind of repair or utility work. Residents should look for company identification, uniforms bearing the company name, and work vehicles with company logos and markings. If in doubt, before allowing an individual into their residence, residents are encouraged to contact the utility company, or the police department.
