Raytown Schools Update: Law Enforcement Lunches

forte

In an effort to allow law enforcement and local emergency and fire department personnel to familiarize themselves with schools in the Raytown District and to allow students to meet officers and first responders one on one in a positive environment, officers are having lunch with students in buildings. In the attached photo, KC Police Chief Darryl Forte joined students at Little Blue Elementary recently during their lunch period.

Dr. Travis Hux, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services, suggested the visits to local police, emergency, and fire departments who accepted the invitation readily.

“We just know that having kids see the officials in a familiar setting will help them be less intimidated and better understand how much police, fire, and emergency personnel help us. While we never want to have a crisis in a school, just imagine if the first responder you see had also been your lunch buddy?” Hux said.

The schools that have had visits are very glad to see the officers.

“We are happy to welcome Chief Forte,” Little Blue and Fleetridge Summer School Principal Debbie Kingrey said.

The visits began in the spring and will be ongoing.
