The Raytown South Debate and Forensics Squad had record-breaking success at the National Forensic League National Tournament on June 11-15, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The squad won the school’s first ever School of Excellence Award for Debate by accumulating 67 rounds of competition. Only 19 schools nation-wide earned this designation.
Seniors Joseph Bennett and Joseph Summers took 2nd place in the nation in Public Forum Debate, earning 9,000.00 in scholarships from the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation. Over 250 teams competed in Public Forum Debate this year.
Senior Ethan Wilkins also took 2nd place out of over 190 students in Expository speaking, earning a 500.00 scholarship from the University of Western Kentucky. Senior Garrett Poorman took 7th place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, an event in which there were over 250 competitors.
Seniors Michael Daniels and Daniel Worthington received an award for placing among the top 30 Public Forum Debate Teams in the nation.
The Raytown South Speech and Debate team was coached by Matt Good and Maureen Wood.
